New Hire Introduction Videos: A Template for Managers

By Ryan Wells 3 min read Updated 2 October 2026

TL;DR — A new hire introduction video — the manager introducing the new person to the wider team, rather than the team welcoming the new hire — is easy to put off because it feels like it should come naturally on the spot. A short fill-in-the-blank template below makes it a five-minute task instead.

  • This is the reverse of a welcome video: the manager introducing the new hire outward, not the team welcoming them in.
  • A short template removes the blank-page problem that usually delays this.
  • Send it on or just before the start date, timed with any wider team announcement.

How this differs from a welcome video

A welcome video (see Welcome Video for New Employees) is built for the new hire to watch before they arrive. An introduction video runs the other way: the manager records a short clip introducing the new hire to the wider team, department or company, often alongside a written announcement. Both can exist for the same hire without overlapping.

Fill-in-the-blank template

Use this as a starting point, not a script to read verbatim — fill in the specifics and say it in your own words:

  • "I'm pleased to introduce [name], who's joining us as [role] on [team]."
  • "[Name] will be focused on [specific responsibility or project] to start."
  • "Before this, [name] [one line of relevant background, kept brief]."
  • "If your work touches on [area], you'll likely be in contact with [name] — feel free to reach out."
  • "Please join me in giving [name] a warm welcome."

Keeping it brief and accurate

Thirty to forty-five seconds is enough. Resist the urge to pad it with the new hire's full background — one relevant detail is more useful to the audience than a recited CV. Double-check role title, team name and pronunciation of the new hire's name before recording; these are the details people notice if they're wrong.

When to send it

Time it with the start date or the day before, and pair it with whatever written announcement your company normally sends for new hires — a channel post, an internal newsletter mention, or an email. How to do this in Whoosh

Record the introduction straight from a phone using the template above, and share it through the same link you use for the new hire's welcome campaign if you want to keep everything related to their start in one place.

Frequently asked questions

Should the new hire see this introduction video?

Optional — some managers share it with the new hire too, which can double as a small confidence boost before day one.

Who should record the introduction if the new hire has two managers or a matrix reporting line?

Pick whoever has the more direct day-to-day relationship; a joint recording usually isn't necessary for something this short.

What if the role or project details might change soon after they start?

Keep the description general enough to still be accurate a few weeks in — "joining the platform team" ages better than a project name likely to shift.
