Why Whoosh doesn’t need an app, a download, or an account
Updated October 4, 2026
Every extra step between "here's the link" and "here's my video" loses you contributors. Whoosh has exactly one step: open the link and record. No app store, no install, no password, no account.
The real cost of "just download the app"
Most video-collection tools that ask contributors to install something lose a meaningful share of people at that exact step — not because the app is bad, but because asking a busy colleague, a candidate who's weighing three other job offers, or a customer who agreed to a 30-second favour to stop, find an app store, download several hundred megabytes, create a login, and then remember what they were doing is a lot to ask for something that takes less time to actually do than to set up.
Whoosh skips every one of those steps. The record button lives directly on the page the link opens. Recording uses the browser's own camera and microphone APIs, the same ones video calls already use — nothing to install, nothing to update, nothing that goes out of date on next year's phone.
No account for contributors, ever
Contributors never create a Whoosh account, verify an email, or set a password. This matters most for the people least likely to push through friction: a candidate you haven't hired yet, a customer doing you a favour, a guest at someone else's event. The only account on Whoosh belongs to the person running the campaign.
What this means for your response rate
In practice, campaigns that are genuinely one tap to start recording get noticeably higher completion rates than anything that requires a download first — most of the drop-off in any multi-step flow happens at the very first extra step, and removing that step end to end is the biggest lever available. If you're inviting a large group and want the highest possible response, the prompt itself and the deadline matter more than almost anything else — see Inviting people to record for what actually moves that number.
